The sun is out! It's been so gray and rainy lately, and the sun just caught the water jars in my studio so nicely, I had to get a photo! And I finally got around to starting a Flickr account.

Inspire Me Thursday ATCs

The first inspiration from Inpire Me Thursday was to create an ATC (artist trading card). This was my first attempt at making one, and I got a little carried away and made two!

So we had HUGE wind and rain storm here in the Seattle area this weekend. We were without power for nearly 36 hours. The majority of those hours were during the night, and the other hours were quite gray and overcast so it was pretty dark. No painting, no reading. It's amazing how not being able to turn on a light, or make a cup of tea, or turn on the heat can really get depressing really fast.

When the power came back I was so happy. And it was sunny for the first time in forever! Still is. Hopefully I'll have time to take advantage of that and take a walk today.

Sleeping Cat

Cats do get themselves into the strangest positions.

This is my first sketch in a while - I'm a bit rusty. I want to sketch/draw more. I'd like to be able to say "I'm going to draw every day" and carry through with that plan. That seems like such a simple statement, but it's actually loaded with all sorts of emotions and ideas and half-visions that I just don't know how to put into words at the moment.

Drawing is great way to slow down and focus. Part of my problem lately is that I'm having a lot of difficulty doing this. Even when I'm sitting still, my brain is going around in circles full throttle, and very little of it makes any sense as the thoughts zoom by.

Waiting for Spring

Lately I've been feeling like a caterpillar in a cocoon, like I'm in a state of stasis, waiting, hopefully transforming. There's something just out of sight, just out of reach, that if I could just see it would bring everything else into focus as well.

I just hope I emerge as a beautiful butterfly when Spring finally arrives.
