This is not a great day. I'm feeling depressed and lonely, anxious and lost. As I look at other artists' blogs and sites, instead of being inspired as usual, I feel intimidated and hopeless that I'll ever get where I want to go. I read this quote on Rhonna's blog and realized that this is a very real fear of mine. I want to master the technique of living to meet my goals/dreams.
I don't share easily, especially things that truly make me feel vulnerable, and I think maybe I'd like to change that. I'd like to trust that sharing would be met with understanding as I've seen again and again on other bloggers' pages, but for the most part I fear that it would be met with judgment and criticism. Sometimes I even find it hard to share them with myself. Maybe it would help if I really could share my hopes and fears, my dreams and disappointments.
In a brief bright moment, I looked at the pile of balled up kleenex I'd accumulated while collecting my tears and thought that might be a good symbol for the monster of depression. Thus this week's entry for Illustration Friday.

For this week's Illo Friday I decided to celebrate the beginning of Spring. This is a linoleum block print that I just completed. I haven't done one of these in a while, but this image just seemed to be calling out for it. I enjoyed doing it I'm quite pleased with the result too.
I'm starting a CafePress.com store, and this is the first image I'm using for it. You can visit it here if you like. It's just a beginning and it's still very under construction (even the title is just a working title), so please come back and visit to see how it progresses. For this particular design I'm planning on adding different colors - softer violets and pinks. After all, spring is here!
If you have any product requests using any of my art, either at my website or any images you've seen here in my blog, please let me know.

This past weekend I took a jewelry making workshop. My first jewerly/metal-working class. It was such a blast! The teacher was amazing and I learned so much and had so much fun doing it. This image is the project from the class. I made that!
So many new sensations, I decided to use this as my entry for Inspire Me Thursday's challenge to create with all five senses.
Sight - The metal glowing red as the solder melted and oozed, the blue flame of the torch
Sound - So many sounds - the teeth of the saw blade cutting through the metal, the woosh of the torch lighting up, the pounding of the hammers, the sizzle as the pieces hit the hot pickle.
Smell - The aroma of sulphur as the piece went into the liver of sulphur solution, the smell of metal lingering on my fingers at the end of the day.
Touch - The roughness of the sandpaper, the sharpness of the cut metal, the heat of a freshly soldered piece (ouch!).
Taste - The taste of the coffee that kept me going through the day long classes, and the M&Ms we shared as we shared our completed pieces. And I've definitely developed a taste for this jewelry making thing!
