Inspire Me Thursday - Abstract Art

My latest piece. It's mixed media/collage on a 24"x24" canvas. Though I still see "me" in this, I also see a new artistic direction coming through in this piece.

This canvas has a story too. A couple of weeks ago I was painting a very different image on it. One night I heard a crash coming from my studio space (never a good thing), and came in to find that one of my cats had knocked over my easel, and the canvas fell into the corner of my work table, putting a nice hole in it. I was pretty upset until my husband pointed out that with my textural style, I could probably patch it and nobody would be able to tell where. So I went for it, and since the canvas was already "ruined", I felt free to experiment a bit, and I'm quite pleased with the result.

Maybe I should let the cat into the studio more often. :)

Life's Little Lessons

One of my goals for this week is to participate more in this here blog-sphere. With that in mind, I'm going to post to Sarah's Life's Little Lessons blog.

This week I have learned…

1. I can stick to a plan. This week has been quite successful in the arena of making a plan and sticking to it, especially in regards to my art and creating. The trick seems to be to make the plan organic and flexible and realistic.

2. I can be truly excited about my art again. I think I might be finally turning the corner and emerging from this slump I've been experiencing the past few months.

3. Drawing is a great way to slow down and get centered, especially the Danny Gregory way. I cannot recommend The Creative License enough!

4. I really needed #3 to get to #1 & #2.

5. Baby steps, baby steps, baby steps… just don't stop moving.

Fallen Angel

Here's my entry for this week's Illustration Friday topic, Angels & Devils. Initially I was working under the assumption that I'd be doing two separate images, but when the idea of making them into one creature came to me, it was like a lightning strike!

New Work - Finally!

This is Mirage, a painting I completed a month or so ago, but I've finally gotten around to photographing it and putting it on my website. I really need to do that more regularly.

Off my game

I haven't been very present around here lately, and I miss it, and everybody I blog with. The past couple of weeks have been just off, nothing horrible, in fact some good, but just off. It culminated in our water heater exploding yesterday morning and me throwing my back/shoulder out due to that.

Here's to hitting restart and getting back to "normal". I plan to be more present next week, and I look forward to seeing you all.

Parklane Gallery

I just got juried in to an artist-run gallery in nearby Kirkland. It's a very nice place in a great location. Though I don't have my own page on it yet, you can visit the gallery's website here Parklane Gallery and I'll update when my profile is added.

Eine Kleine Nachtmusik

I was commissioned to create a small piece as a gift for my sister-in-law's piano teacher of 12 years. This is it.

I'm posting it for Illo Friday's Under the Sea theme as well, though this may be more over the sea than under it.
